5 Things to Do While Offline

by Rico on August 13th, 2008

By chance or intention, you’re cut off from the internet, and you’ve had enough relaxation for the moment and want to get things done. What to do?

Go Through Your Finances. Even if you use an online application to keep track of expenses and earnings, you still (should) have all your receipts, invoices, and other financial documentation at hand. Why not go through everything, to see if you have to make changes to your budget or financial setup?

Call up a Client. Instead of IMing or emailing a long-time recurring client, why not give them a call? You can text ahead to ask if it’s ok to talk. This personal touch will help solidify your relationship with what’s literally a valuable asset.

Exercise. Finally! You have an excuse not to spend the whole day in front of the computer. Check out my set of basic exercises; you can also try your hand at the push-up challenge.

Start a Project. Once upon a time, we all did work without access to the Internet. So why not do some work? Even if all the important details are in one of your webmail accounts, you can always build a draft and refine that, once you regain access to the project info.

Make a List. Again, all the information you need may be stuck online, but you can always come up with a rough draft of what you have to do, refining once you’re able to go online again.

No doubt, the Internet is a valuable resource, primarily because it provides quick access to information. But we’re not dullards; while it’s increasingly hard to say that we can’t live without the net, we can still make do.
