The title of the article I’m featuring, To Freelance for Trade Magazines be a Team Player reminds me a valuable insight by CSJ:
Most of us help each other out, mutually we’ve understood that the every-designer-for-himself mantra does nothing good for the industry.
It may be hard to see a relation between openness among designers and the need to be active on the local scene (which is what the article covers). But consider this: a freelancer who actively participates—rather than keep to him- or herself—has a greater chance of achieving success.
There will always be someone else who has something more, and fully maximizing those who have the resources for your own benefit requires a little tit-for-tat.
