An Easy Way to Come Up With Creative Ideas
Whatever situation I’m in, I always find myself asking: “How does this relate to my projects?” Constantly looking for new experiences isn’t only a great way to live, it also makes it easier to come up with new creative ideas.
To paraphrase advertising great David Ogilvy, a good copywriter knows a little bit about everything. I believe that this applies to any creative industry. The simple fact is that the more you know, the more you can do. You will have more perspectives to process, and invariably, more potential ideas to formulate.
In short, an easy way to come up with creative ideas is to always look for new things to do, for new places to visit, and for new people to talk to. And at the same time, being aware of how you can maximize your new experiences for present and future projects. Even if your checkbook can’t support a jet setter’s lifestyle, there will always be new books to read—and new webpages to surf.
I came up with the idea for this post after I talked to my girlfriend about—fittingly enough—creating and expounding on ideas. The conversation made me realize that broad experiences make idea generation a lot easier. Have you recently realized how a life experience can apply to your project?
