Are Timbuk2 Bags a Mobile Freelancer’s Dream?
First, a disclaimer: Last week, a local distributor of Timbuk2 bags wined and dined me and fellow bloggers. Over some free food and drinks, they introduced the brand to us, as well as show off some product samples. We were all given a PR package full of marketing collaterals, a mug, and an iPod case. I even scored a Classic Sleeve from the impromptu raffle. Even before the dinner was over, I imagined Timbuk2 would be perfect for mobile freelancers.
I was genuinely impressed with the cushioning, build quality and subtle styling of the bags. Many of the products showcased at the dinner featured generous padding, lined with corduroy (which supposedly minimizes scratching). They all felt sturdy: the seams looked totally secure, and the waterproof nylon exteriors’ resistance to severe wear and tear was incessantly pointed out.
Freelancers owning laptops, cameras, and other expensive gadgets to lug around would like Timbuk2’s offerings. Especially since they all look like your average bag, less appealing to athief’s eye. Even the brand logo doesn’t scream “expensive!”
The only issue I had with Timbuk2’s products is that they’re quite pricey. Though I fell for the marketing reps’ rebuttals—that your expensive gadget deserves expensive protection—hook, line, and sinker.
I’m seriously considering a Timbuk2 bag for my trusty 15.4″ laptop. But while I’m making up my mind, I’d like to hear from you, dear readers. What are your experiences with Timbuk2 bags? Are they worth the price?

Though I have never owned one, I’ve heard pretty much universally good things about Tumbuk2 bags. I was going to get one, but opted for a $20 laptop backpack from Wal-Mart. :p

So how’s the bag? Does it get the job done? :)

In my line of work (community based social worker, read: no office) I went through dozens of bags that just went right. I picked up the blogger and have not looked back. It does great hauling my gear and macbook to the coffee shop, meetings and on planes to various podcasting events.
I also have a small messenger as my “everyday” bag. I can’t see myself using any other brand. Oh and as for price, being Canadian, I pay 30$ shipping on every order and still consider it a value.

How long have you had your Timbuk2? How does it hold up to long-term usage? :)

Only problem I have had is the cat eats the zipper pulls. It looks and feels bullet proof. I’ve had one for a year but my kid’s is almost 3 years old and she kicks the crap out of it (gym bag, overnight bag and computer bag) and it looks brand new. Oh, and coffee spill on the light colored bags come out.
