Are Your Policies Killing You?
I recently came across an old article on Wired. Here goes:
Notified of the security holes Moore and Chisholm exploit, Friendster rep Lisa Kopp insists, “We have a policy that we are not being hacked.” When I explain that, policy or no, they are being hacked, she says, “Security is a big concern. We haven’t seen this problem, though. No complaints about it.”
Do your policies distort your worldview—and thus make it harder to address your productivity and creativity problems? Clearly, “I have a policy that clients will just approach me” isn’t the best thing to believe in.

That’s hilarious - “a policy that we are not being hacked”! If only it were that easy. Policies control what YOU do, not what other people do. You can’t control other people’s behaviour, only respond to it in a way that’s consistent with your values (and spelled out in policies if you’re a company).

I didn’t know you could just create a policy and make it so… That is great.
