Contract Worker - Freelancing Experiences

Balance Your Many Freelance Hats

by Rico on June 3rd, 2008

I wrote it two years ago, and I think it’s still true: you can’t be the master of everything. Still, if you find yourself struggling to find a balance between writing, design, photography, programming, blogging, playing careers (whew!)—and genuinely like doing all of them—then feel free to visit zenhappens.com’s How To Find Your Balance In Multiple Freelancing Avenues.

But seriously, I still think the most talented of us do better when they only concentrate on one kind of work. What do you think?

As much as I believe in multiple streams of income, I feel it’s best to concentrate on one type of work. I tried focusing on more than one freelance venture…it was exhausting and I didn’t have time for everything.

I tend that you cannot be the master of everything, I also believe you don’t have to…

Like Tim Ferris states on his blog in
“The top 5 Reasons to Be a Jack of all Trade”

I believe in being a generalist; Having a broad range of knowledge and wisdom and various fields. Just by accumulated experiences you can generate new skills in a short amount of time if you do it right. That’s how I started the drums and became a professional musician, I wanted to build my own website and became a web designer, then I got into yoga and after a couple years, decide to teach it.

Being a Jack of all Trades is being open-minded, bold, willing to dive into the unknown and thrive out of it. It’s about looking far and wide for new boundaries. It’s being too complex to categorize.

    my 2 cents :)
