Building Your Reputation by Keeping Your Word

Keeping your word is a simple way to build your status as a contract worker who delivers. But you must be willing to resist temptations.
I spent the whole day with a freelance photographer named Jake Verzosa. While on a break between layouts, he received a text asking if he was available to shoot Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday. Unfortunately, he already a prior commitment, and had to refuse the project.
What struck me was how easy it was for him to say no and move on. Of course, he complained a bit with multiple sayangs (shucks) about passing up such a wonderful oppurtunity. Surely it must be hard for a photographer to refuse the chance to shoot Pacquiao. Thanks to his recent victory over Erik Morales, he’s very famous here in the Philippines, if not the world.
I’m sure this will be a temporary setback for Jake. By saying no to a great oppurtunity when it conflicted with a scheduled shoot, he will keep his word. And enhance his reputation as a talented—and dependable—photographer. Check out his wonderful works over at The Joyride.
