Over the past two weeks I’ve played around with a Nokia E71 loaner. Right now it’s the next phone I’m willing to spend my hard-earned cash on.
A common argument against high-end, do-everything phones is that not everyone can maximize all those features. A sentiment I agree with, but this smartphone model is a significant exception. […]

Last week, I reviewed the Pro|Click Mobile Bluetooth mouse. Such mice are potential productivity boosters, because they cut down the time you spend setting up in public places. So was this mouse worth my $40 purchase? Visit The Gadget Blog and see for yourself.

I’ve already talked about the productivity benefits of the dual-monitor setup. An alternative is to just buy one big monitor.
Now I’m trying out an HP w2228h; consider this my unreserved recommendation for the 22 LCD display. It features HDMI, DVI, and VGA ports, which is a techie way of saying that it works with practically […]

I’ve done it! I’ve “upgraded” (or rather downgraded) my laptop to Windows XP!
I was honestly surprised at how easy the process was. Here’s what I did:
Copy everything to the external hard disk that has the same or more capacity than my laptop’s drive
Locate all the drivers needed to get my hardware to run properly on […]

I’ve tried to bear it, but I simply can’t. Windows Vista really represents a step backward from Windows XP.
For all it’s apparent security problems and the like, XP was still a pretty powerful and versatile piece of hardware software. All that was needed to make it run perfectly was a little tweaking.
That isn’t true for […]

I once ranted about the HP Mini-Note 2133, and how it’s great for freelancers. Finally securing a review unit for myself, I discovered my initial pleasure was tremendously well-founded.

43 Folders does a great job of informing everyone about the apparent obsolescence of FTP. But as far as I know, the proposed replacement, SFTP, really is more secure, but won’t it require web hosting providers to use more powerful servers?

Consider this my (somewhat) unreserved recommendation of Dell’s XPS M1330. I signed up for a 12-month installment plan for this notebook, for the following reasons:
Portability. My previous laptop, which had a 15.4″ display, was a joy to use thanks to the big screen. Unfortunately, bringing it around with me was another story. The XPS M1330 […]

Yesterday, I got to try out the HP 2133. As I’ve said, the mini-note represents “an impressive combination of portability, functionality, and most importantly, affordability.” Those are three reasons why I think this laptop can work for many freelancers. It’s portable enough to fit in the smallest of bags, functionally capable of running demanding programs […]

If you’ve tried to interview someone unprepared, be prepared for the worst. I’ve made the mistake of interviewing a celebrity for a magazine in a freelance capacity. Since I don’t write quickly, I ended up losing the choice information that could’ve led to an entertaining yet accurate profile of my interviewee.
This won’t be another how […]
