I decided not to write anything for Fun Friday, because plenty of my fellow b5media business bloggers have written about Manufacturing and the [US] Economy. Of particular interest is this showcase of Miki’s poetic skills:
Are you tired of the Chinese deficit,
do you want to see less of it?
Are you waiting for the Feds to fix […]

There’s no problem with fun and games. But being funny can have its consequences for a freelancer’s career and reputation. Snopes does a great job of busting urban myths, especially those that have found life on the Internet. It even explains why some of these “myths” are actually true.
Such is the case of the Risque […]

This image below is long. But bear with me fellow freelancers, for though the problems listed have a lot to do with the corporate world, they really apply to contract work:
We do have our advantages. The client-freelancer interaction is pretty straightforward, meaning there’s chance for confusion or screw ups. This is especially true if you […]

Despite what the critics say, I found Freddy Got Fingered quite entertaining. At the very least, it was… surreal:
The unfocusedly weird Gordon Brody (played by the equally weird Tom Green) couldn’t find success as an animator because he placed no limits on his creativity (or “creativity”). That changed when Gordon came up with a concept […]

Only Brian Clark can tell you how to write in ten different ways. But, whether he knows it or not, he’s also created the perfect formula for success.
Just take his post on becoming a better writer, and replace “Write” with whatever you do. So if you do X, apply this list:
X.
X more.
X even more.
X even […]

Yep, it’s Monday again. And contract workers who’ve committed to a schedule aren’t saved from Mondayitis. So before you let the start of the work week (you’re probably sighing now) get to you, be glad that you’re not gullible enough to fall for this job posting:
Female Writer Needed for a Book (Comp: $750/week): I am […]

Hooray! Another Monday morning! I can’t wait to start another week of work.
Ok, I was joking. If you’re feeling the Monday blues, here’s something to remember:
Party like a Rockstar, Play like an Allstar, Live like a MovieStar, and F**k like a PornStar
Hillariously insightful. Thanks to DJ Kass for the quote. 3D Animation studios should look […]

So you’re feeling sleepy. Doing what you love is great, but work is still work. And if you work at home, it’s soooo easy to head for the nearest bed, kick off your shoes, and rest your sleepy head on the wonderfully soft pillow. Especially if you’re losing sleep to meet a deadline.
Sometimes we need […]

Let’s take a little detour for today. If you don’t know where the word “freelancing” came from, read on.
According to recorded history, Sir Walter Scott coined the word “freelance” for his novel Ivanhoe. He used it to describe a “mercenary medieval warrior.”
Makes sense to me, since lots of these European “medieval warriors” probably used “lances.” […]
