Contract Worker - Freelancing Experiences

“Creative” Types Get the Most Sleep, UK Study Shows

by Rico on July 8th, 2008

It looks like media, creative, marketing, and PR professionals—the same professions most inclined to freelancing in my opinion—get the most sleep in Britain. At least, that’s what a recent study says:

Seemingly undisturbed by work pressures, today’s media or creative professional gets an average of 7 hours and 12 minutes a night… Marketing and PR workers get just a few minutes less, meaning they too drop off to sleep without delay and for a healthy length of time.

An interesting study. I wonder though if there are specific statistics on home workers or those who have complete control over their schedule. A freelancing friend who works at home revealed that she sleeps about 5 to 6 hours on average, so maybe it’s a country-by-country thing?

The point is that, if detailed sleeping statistics on freelancers can be compiled, it could help prove that freelancing allows for a freer schedule—or an opportunity for workaholics to exhaust themselves. Which could it be?
