Creativity Exercise: Make it Simple Stupid
So you’ve spent hours writing that article or designing that layout. Now, see if you can make it as simple as possible.
For writing, this means pruning as many words as you can, without losing the important points. Same thing goes for design, except you take away elements instead of words.
This exercise helps you pinpoint the unnecessary “fluff” of your style. In other words, you discover what you usually use in your projects, and which of that isn’t really effective. The point is to trim down your technique, so that your message—or your client’s—is as clear as possible.
The final part of this exercise is showing (Show) the final, edited version to others, and get their feedback. Do they still understand what you’re trying to say, understanding all the details you wanted to convey?
