Exploring the “Work-Life Balance”
Michelle writes about an apparently growing trend in the business world, coined the work-life balance. The concept attempts to combine the best of both worlds, mashing-up the flexibility of freelancing with the relative stability of the corporate world. Details in this lengthy article.
I think that widespread acceptance of the work-life balance suffers from a nearly insurmountable obstacle. The thinking of many corporations still isn’t compatible with freelancing. Michelle for instance proposes asking an employer for a flexible time arrangement. But do you know of any businesses that are open to such suggestions?
In any case, the point of Michelle’s article is still a good read. At the very least, it asks the reader to consider all their options, and not just accept any system that may be imposed on them. I choose to “suffer” being at the office at a certain time, and freelance at night, because I believe that this approach is suitable to my passions and needs. What about you?
