Have You Ever Considered Feng Shui for Your Home Office?
At first glance, Feng Shui may look like a bunch of mystical mumbo jumbo (with all due respect to its practitioners). But, discerning people will realize that Feng Shui just packages sensible advice in a different way.
For instance, I prefer to see the first tip in Bootstrapper’s 50 Practical Home Office Feng Shui Tips, “Don’t obstruct the doorway”, as a great way to lessen the chance of accidents. Accidents at home are definitely a distraction from productivity.
Another tip, “Leave at least 3 feet between furniture”, makes sure that there’s enough space to freely move in your home office—and the rest of the house. Personally, cramped places make me feel that I lack freedom, limiting my creativity intangibly.
In any case, check out Lauren’s wonderful post, and see which of her tips are applicable to your home office.

My office is pretty Feng Shui -ed. I find that the natural flow of “energy” tends to follow the natural flow of traffic.
And I have some bamboo as well as other plants, strategically placed in my home office. My husband, an environmental psychologist, can cite all sorts of studies that show how plants relieve fatigue and help you feel better in general.
So…it’s not mumbo jumbo! It’s (soft) science!

Yeah, it’s just too bad that some people dismiss it because of its “mystical” presentation. I mean, wouldn’t working with your back to the door prove really stressful, in the sense that anyone can just sneak up on you?
