Contract Worker - Freelancing Experiences

Health Really is Wealth

by Rico on October 2nd, 2007

Health really is wealth, because a sick freelancer has a harder time earning money and making a living. Today has seen me experience pressure on my nape and head—classic symptoms of hypertension.

If I really am suffering from high blood pressure (I’m about to leave for a check-up), then it would be such a waste. 25-year-olds shouldn’t be suffering from “adult” chronic disorders. Especially since when I have so much to do! I’m honestly having a hard time writing this, because the dizziness in my head isn’t going away. Good thing my schedule is pretty free. I would hate to work through nausea.

I find myself reminded about the importance of health. Maybe I should treat my body better. I’ve been pretty hard on it the last few days, sacrificing sleep to make sure everything gets done. Perhaps my body has finally had enough.

Fellow freelancers, take care of yourselves. You can replace destroyed equipment, and you can recreate lost information. But it’s impossible to replace your body. I’m pretty sure that if I took better care of my body, it wouldn’t be acting this way right now. In short, a healthy body is usually a requirement to submitting your projects on time and to spec.
