How to Keep Your Information Private Online
As previously mentioned, there are some things you should never reveal online. Here’s how to keep them private:
- Use a different email address. Use one email address as a logon for your different websites, and another for talking to anyone online. Gmail allows you to handle multiple email addresses from one mailbox.
- Never reveal your birthday online. I always shake my head whenever I see people not only talking about their birthday on their blog, but even reveal how old they are! There are other reasons to keep your age secret, aside from vanity.
- Use your alias or nickname. I’m not really sure when, but I had a discussion with Vyoma about what name to use online. I’ve realized that we should only stick to aliases or nicknames on the Internet. With enough promotion, it could even become a powerful brand that effectively represents your freelance services!
- Don’t reveal family specifics. There’s nothing wrong with sharing things about your family. Just don’t do it all the time, because to be honest nobody wants to know about your personal life, and some unscrupulous people may take advantage of what they find.
That’s all I have; how else can we keep our information private online?

Don’t give it to the State Dept. for safe-keeping…

Hehe, thank God it isn’t as pervasive here in the Philippines (I hope!)
