Luck = Opportunity + Preparation
First we wrote about holiday gifts. Then we set some goals. Last Valentine’s day, we highlighted the importance of passion. Now for the fourth b5media business channel theme day, we’ll be featuring luck.
Whenever I think of luck, I always remember “luck is opportunity met met by preparation.” There’s nothing mystical about luck. Your success in finding “luck” doesn’t depend on the alignment of stars or a rabbit’s foot, but rather on a readiness to maximize openings.
Freelancers and contract workers, many of whom work on their own terms and aren’t tied down to long commitments, are in a great position to do this. Thus, while they pursue their passion(s) and work to build their careers as freelancers, they should also stay open to possibilities as they come.
Check out the rest of the business channel, and see what they have to stay about luck:
- On Business and Blogging, Des Walsh remarks that the term “luck o’ the Irish” has an ironic twist. With the help of a long dead Roman philosopher he then proceeds to offer some suggestions about luck and business blogging.
- While on Tough Questions? Great Answers, Darlene McDaniel reminds us to be practical, that we are responsible for our work ethic. It is not a matter of Luck, it’s all about how hard you are willing to work.
- Same thing with Mary Emma Allen, who writes on Home Biz Notes that creating “luck” for your home business is really a result of persistence and perseverance, not something that “falls into your lap.”
- Mark Herpel of Digital Money World highlights a great way of getting lucky with your online sales: make the checkout easy for your customer.
- Over at Brand Curve, Ron Elizondo discusses four variables that will help you maximize the luck in your business, because luck isn’t free or granted. Plus a bonus Top 5 quotes on Luck in Business.
- Eric Eggertson writes on Common Sense PR about riding the attention wave when you’re lucky enough to get a boost of media attention.
- On Property Crossroads, Maricel Ferrer-Custodio makes it easier for you to get lucky in real estate with her top 5 links. It has tons of information and investment strategies to help you achieve your investment goals.
- Ben Yoskovitz asks over at Startup Spark: How Important Luck is in Entrepreneurship? While he believes luck is used as a scapegoat for both success and failure, he wants to know what you think―through a poll.
- It’s too bad Tris Hussey of Pimp Your Work is struggling through a bad cold. But even though if he’s suffering, he still considers himself lucky. Talk about positive thinking!
- Rounding out this theme day is Denise Grier, the new writer of Leadership Turn. She reveals her thoughts on luck.
It seems most of us cover proper preparation, one way or another. Which makes sense. The world is so full of opportunities, but the only way you can fully exploit them and “get lucky” is if you’re ready to do so.
