Make Your Online Portfolio More Effective With a Dose of Usability
The concept of stating your message quickly is part of usability. Part of usability’s mission is to remove the barriers to “conversion” that keep people from availing of your product or services online.
By “conversion”, I’m tallking about what you want people to do on your website. In a portfolio website, the objective is probably to get prospective clients to avail of the freelancer’s services.
So how can you find out more about usability and turn your site into an inquiry-generation tool? One expert I’d recommend is Jakob Nielsen, who maintains useit.com

Good link. Alertbox is a good publication. I wish he had a feed, though. Email subscriptions don’t fit very well with my current news setup.

Yeah, I’m actually surprised he didn’t start using RSS once it became popular. In any case, I still think subscribing to Alertbox is well worth the inbox clutter it’ll generate.
