Rest in Peace, Chris Pearson

by Rico on August 17th, 2007

Since pearsonified.com isn’t updated everyday, I don’t check out Chris Pearson’s blog that much. But more often than not, I leave knowing more about web design and self-improvement—even if they’re two areas I’m not particularly good at. And speaking of the former, Mr. Pearson is good enough to get away with at least $1500 for a design.

Actually that should be charged, because after a few months of staying away, I checked out the blog. And was floored to read this announcement on the nth version of his about page:

Although I sincerely appreciate your interest, I must inform you that I am not for hire.

With one simple sentence, one of the greatest has abandoned us all. And at a time when we desperately need standard-conscious web designers to push browser makers, kicking and screaming, over to more consistent web site presentation. Oh, and make websites look good too.

Rest in peace Chris Pearson. At least a part of you will live on whenever you think of writing a blog post. *sniff*

On a less sappy level, the death of Chris Pearson’s freelance career also means that the web design game is now more level. With one less (star) player to compete with, who’ll step up?

Gotta say not the best headline going around - especially for someone reading just headlines in their rss reader.

Attention grabbing, yes … but really disappointing.

To be honest, I didn’t write the headline to grab attention, but to express my sorrow at Chris Pearson’s apparent departure from the freelance world.

Ha, I guess Martin was disappointed because I wasn’t truly dead?

Anyway, my choice (and desire) to get out of the freelance game stems partially from a desire to remove myself from the constraints of contract work. However, the main reason why I’ve moved on is because I am now able to focus on projects that can affect much larger numbers of people.

I’ve found that it’s nearly impossible for me to adequately balance client work with the real projects that inspire me, and since life is short, I’ve decided to eschew freelancing in favor of these projects.

Right now, I’m squarely focused on Facebook applications, but I can see these developing into regular Web applications in due time. You can get more info over at my personal site (linked above), and I’ll be making future project announcements over there as well.

    Take care!

Good to see that you’re going long Chris. Whatever you cook up, aside from that Facebook App you featured weeks ago, I’m sure it’ll be what Brian Clark calls “remarkable.” :)

    Thanks for dropping by!

[…] I’ve yet to read anyone who’s discussed these realities so eloquently online, save for Chris Pearson, and Bryan Veloso: …just because one is good at something, doesn’t mean that they’re […]
