Though freelancers have great control over their office environment and the work they’re doing, sometimes even they need motivation.
“Chief Happiness Officer” Alexander Kjerulf does write on keeping the morale and motivation in an office environment high, but some of his insights apply to contract workers as well, such as:

[...] It isn’t enough, because we should be grateful. We should be grateful for the gifts life has given us, for all the breaks that went our way. Sometimes, when you see all the good fortune God (or whatever higher power you believe in) has granted you. You realize that complaining about all your misfortunes is silly.
