The Benefits of Early Morning Coffee

Welcome to another Monday, dear readers. If a cup of coffee isn’t part of your morning ritual, then consider picking up the habit. Apparently, there are lots of health benefits associated with the caffeinated drink:

Want a drug that could lower your risk of diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and colon cancer? That could lift your mood and treat headaches? That could lower your risk of cavities?

If it sounds too good to be true, think again.

Coffee, the much maligned but undoubtedly beloved beverage, just made headlines for possibly cutting the risk of the latest disease epidemic, type 2 diabetes. And the real news seems to be that the more you drink, the better.

And… did you know that coffee also wakes you up? Sorry for the sarcasm there…

In any case, staying healthy and awake will help you get a lot done during this work week. And if you’re worried that Starbucks’ expensive prices will make you go broke, know that there are cheaper—yet equally effective—alternatives. Ever heard of instant coffee?

Happy sipping!

I’m not sure that instant coffee has the same benefits as “regular” coffee, if only because it’s more highly processed than other types of coffee. Processed foods are usually less nutritious and “beneficial” than unprocessed foods.

I’m only guessing, but I suspect the same might be true of instant coffee.

That said, making your own coffee at home is still an inexpensive alternative to Starbucks. Even if you pay for the (relatively) expensive, organic, fair trade coffee beans like I do, it’s still significantly cheaper, per cup, than going to a coffee shop.

I always joke my friends when we have nothing better to do than go to a coffee shop “Let’s drink some overpriced coffee!”

You may be right about instant coffee. And “regular” coffee from experience is a lot more effective. :)
