The Benefits of Moving Quickly
A few days ago, I had a chance to be involved in a project really suited my skills. Unfortunately, since I let my current work make me lose track of the future, I let a golden opportunity pass by.
When I asked a potential client if I could get the job, she seemed interested. All she asked was for a summary of my strengths, as well as invoice to give her an idea of how much my services would cost.
Unfortunately, I took my time in answering her, and by the time I did, she had already given the project to someone else, explaining that she had to move quickly.
I’m not saying that getting the project was a sure thing. But why limit the chances you get? And even if I was (am) really busy, that’s still no excuse. After all, isn’t taking a few minutes off worth the potential income and new experience? It doesn’t really take that much time to send in a project proposal, and immediately provide what a potential needs to gauge your worth.

This is such a common occurrence. In fact, there are tons of opportunities out there that I can’t begin to apply for because I’m already so busy…

I know. When I first started out, I had a habit of trolling the job listings and bookmarking them before taking a break to feed my infant daughter and wash up. It’d only take an hour at most, but by the time I returned to apply to the posts, about a third of them would already be filled and taken down. I’ve finally learned to just go ahead and apply right then.

Laura: I guess that’s another reason why we should finish our work as soon as we can!
Misses E.: Yeah, I’m sure you know how it helps to have everything you need for applying at hand, so that you can quickly customize your proposal and send it immediately.
