The Big Break

CW: What do you consider your “big break” anyway?
CSJ: The time I was slowly getting known for my work - people I don’t know started to add me on instant messengers, haha. Getting called “csj” outside the interwebs, that was nice too. Also getting a steady amount of emails from prospective clients—that’s when I had my break.
CW: Ah, so basically, it was a gradual process?
CSJ: Yup, not really one big break.
CW: How long did all this take?
CSJ: I’ve been designing since 2004, so 4 years?
CW: So how did you get started as a designer?
CSJ: I’ve been designing since 2004, working on school projects and getting freelance works here and there, but i’ve only been designing professionally early 2007
CW: When did you realize that you could do design professionally?
CSJ: It was pretty much a seamless process. It started on spec work, like friends asking for favors, if I can design so and so - pro bono. Then I thought if I can charge for the stuff i do, why not? First paid job was $30 from a foreign client, sent via snail mail, and I was ecstatic back then (laughter).
