The Easy Way to Create Ideas and Maximize Your Creativity
A common complaint I hear among fellow freelancers and contract workers is the apparent inability to come up with new ideas. And I totally understand where they’re coming from, having suffered through dry creative spells myself. Along the way, I’ve discovered a technique that’s great at producing ideas. It’s not a guaranteed end to your self-brainstorming problems, but it will definitely make your creative life a lot easier.
As I go about my daily life, I really make an effort to retain an open mind and to absorb whatever catches my fancy. At the same time, I constantly try to relate my experiences to current work-related problems. It’s how I found the connection between hip-hop and freelancing.
The trick to successfully using this technique is to not intentionally do it. In other words, be Zen-like and let the ideas come to you, not the other way around. The more you try to deliberately formulate ideas, the harder such a process becomes. Another key to maximizing this method is to keep a notebook handy, to let you write your ideas down as you formulate them.
And of course, it definitely helps to have as many experiences as possible. The more you get out, try new things, and meet more people, the potential for new and remarkable ideas increases.

I find the biggest issues are in doing the work the ideas require. I have less trouble coming up with ideas. Of course doing the work refines the idea and then usually spurs many more.

I definitely stress out from trying to think of something new and especially original. It kills me when I think I found an original idea like a myspace or a Youtube and then come to learn that my idea is already in use. I think im definitely gonna start the notebook thing that you suggest. It sounds like a great idea to write down something and refer back to it and see if it could be somethng worth working on.

Sean: True. No doubt, the other part of maximizing creativity is turning ideas into action.
Joseph:Personally, there’s nothing wrong about using other’s ideas as inspiration, so long as you make it unique in your own way.
