The Founders of Freelance Switch Agree: Blogs are Good for Freelancers
If you’re interested in the future of FreelanceSwitch, check out this interview of the blog’s founders, Cyan and Collis Taeed. But more importantly, Cyan has some hard data regarding a blog’s ability to generate inquiries for freelancers:
We never had a blog when we freelanced, but we have received at least 40 work offers for web design and writing in the 90 days we’ve been live from FreelanceSwitch. Considering we weren’t looking and there was no CV element to the site I found that surprising. It really indicates how effective a blog could be to a freelancer.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Maintaining a personal blog has helped my freelance career tremendously. Aside from letting prospective clients know who am I and what I can do, it’s good practice for my writing and communication skills. Not to mention it provides a direct way of contacting me, through the contact form.
At the very least, the blog markets your freelance career 24/7, while you’re busy getting things done or enjoying some downtime. I know this is true, as I’m about to enter a freelance writing commitment, the result of a client’s interest generated by this very blog.
