The Multi-Browser Setup: Better Productivity
I’m not sure if there are any dangers in operating more than one browser on your computer, but I’ve discovered that it’s a great productivity tool.
Before, I used Firefox for practically everything I did on the web, firing up Explorer only when I had to visit an Explorer-only site. Unfortunately, Firefox seems to slow down a lot when many windows and tabs are opened. The upcoming Firefox 3 is faster, but it still becomes sluggish under heavy loads. With a multi-browser setup, I get to keep track of everything, increasing my productivity.
Nowadays, I use Firefox, Explorer, and Safari. By dividing my tasks into different browsers, I make it easy to manage all the tasks I’m handling at any given time.
- Firefox - General surfing/research/time-wasting.
- Explorer - For my webmail accounts.
- Safari - Blogging. Whether or not Safari is safe, I use it to visit my blogs, write on them, and other personal online projects.
By separating my task “categories” among different browsers, I don’t waste time looking for that buried in some window. The multi-browser setup lets me quickly switch between work, mail, and general surfing, as the need arises.
Do you use a multi-browser setup? Has it worked well for you?

Oh yes, I do this when I am working in Windows environment.
On Ubutnu, I just switch from one desktop to another. (It has two).
