The Need to Get Out: How it Improves Productivity for Freelancers
Yesterday, I had a hard time getting started, lacking the will to just do it. I tried taking breaks, doing something else in the house, but to no avail. Then I realized I had to urgently complete an errand, so I got ready and went out to accomplish it.
What happened when I returned was amazing. My former laziness had suddenly, disappeared, replaced by the determination to get things done. I was alert and ready to process information, easily finding the focus to prioritize my projects and determine which to accomplish first.
A few hours later, I was finished with everything planned for the day, and I enjoyed a relatively casual evening with some long-lost friends.
It seemed that leaving the house did wonders for my productivity. You could chalk it up to having to get ready to go out, or simply the change in scenery. Whatever it was, the need to get out got me back on track, and contributed to my accomplishing projects on time and to spec. Next time, I’ll see how working in different areas affects my productivity.
