The Second Step to a Great Inventory 2.0: Enough Space

by Rico on March 3rd, 2007

Now that you’ve decided how to store it, the next step to take before compiling your Inventory 2.0 is to make sure you have enough space/capacity to store everything. If you’re storing files, hard copies, or anything physical, you’d better make sure you have enough file cabinets, shelves, or containers to do so.

And with the cost of digital media dropping, there are no more excuses to start backing up your digital data. You have so many options: CDs, DVDs, even hard disks. You can also consider storing some of your files online, though keep in mind that this opens your work to a persistent hacker.

Making sure you can store everything also means planning for the future. You should have enough space to keep at least a year’s worth of work. When the year ends, you can clean out your old files and archive them in a safe place, so that your storage space is ready to handle your new year’s output.
