I apologize for going off-topic dear readers. But when you’re talking about the best damn movie in recent times, you simply have no choice but to let everyone know what a wonderful cinematic journey The Dark Knight was.

It’s a trip I will eagerly relive, whether I return to the theater or watch the DVD. Everyone’s currently insisting that Heath Ledger deserves a posthumous Oscar, so I won’t mention how his Joker was so emphatically real. The Dark Knight isn’t just about the spectacular penultimate performance of one actor, it’s much more than that.

Let’s just say the vision of Christoper Nolan, as executed by Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, et. al, is a timelessly relevant look at the philosophy of the human person at its most profound, and an exploration of human beings and morality at its simplest. It’s so easy to subscribe to the madness permeating the entire movie, and take happiness from the good guys’ willingness to do the right thing—no matter the cost to themselves or their loved ones. It’s simply amazing how this movie is both cynical and hopeful at the same time.

I leave you with a passage from the movie (IF YOU DON’T WANT ANY SPOILERS, STOP READING):

Because he’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we’ll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he’s not the hero. He’s a silent guardian, a watchful protector. The Dark Knight.
