Contract Worker - Freelancing Experiences

What Do You Do When You Don’t Get Paid for a Job?

by Rico on May 10th, 2008

freelance-payment_nc.jpgApryl (not a typo) Duncan of about.com knows. Check out What to Do When You Don’t Get Paid for a Freelance Job? In the article, she writes about going from gently reminding the client about the contract, to the absolute last resort, going to court.

It’s articles like these that remind me why freelancers should save money, and commit to some regular gigs. You never know when that rainy day will suddenly arrive.

One of my experiences as a freelancer turned out to be a total disaster. Berating myself for being foolish enough to send the completed project so trustingly, I was cheated out of $580. All my reminders fell on deaf ears, so much so that I began to get biased against Americans (my client is from Virginia). Now I take up projects only through agencies and pray that this doesn’t ever happen to any freelancer.
