What’s the Most Important Part of a Brand
I won’t bother discussing how branding benefits freelancers, since I’ve done so many times before. Instead, I’ll just point styleapple.com’s statement of the obvious: your logo should be defined by your brand, not the other way around.
Related question: should freelancers even bother having a logo in the first place? Feel free to answer by leaving comment.

This is a good question Rico. I agree with you that branding has lots of benefits for freelancers. I’ve been thinking about the whole logo question a lot lately. I’ve decided not to go for one for now. One reason for this is that I prefer to trade under my own name, so think it would have to be a pretty special logo for me to feel it represented my brand - and I just haven’t seen anything close to this out there. Another reason is I’ve been put off by all the bog standard stock images I’ve seen used. Again, this is just not the kind of thing I feel would reflect my brand.
Maybe I’d consider having one designed if I found the right professional, whose style I felt was a good fit for me. Until then, I’m taking a policy of better to have no logo at all, than a bad one!
