Why August (the Adjective) is Important for Freelancers
The seventh b5media business channel theme day falls under the month of August, so we’re all talking about being august. To quote Wiktionary:
…noble, majestic, awe-inspiring…
Have you ever encountered a freelancer or technique that is most august? It can be a literally jaw-dropping portfolio (such as Rico Sta. Cruz’s), or a style you desperately want to mimic. There’s a tendency to get intimidated by these, in a sense that achieving their level of greatness seems impossible.
But what’s best about great things is that, by their very nature, they help others achieve. Aside from proving that such augustness is possible, they also provide the clues leading to success. Thriving at your freelance career requires knowing your craft well, and having sound fundamentals. And what’s an excellent route to learning the basics? Copying from the greats of course.
So, fellow freelancers, if you encounter something most august, don’t be intimidated or shy away from it. Embrace it, learn from it, and most of all, copy it. That’s the only way you can hope to become august yourselves.
