Contract Worker - Freelancing Experiences

Why Porn May Help You Improve as a Freelancer

by Rico on June 25th, 2007

Over the weekend, a fellow freelancer who shall remain anonymous (for reasons that will become obvious) asserted that working on porn-related projects really helped the development of his/her skills.

Yes, dear readers, it’s another installment of Monday Madness!

This freelancer maintains that a key objective of porn—enticing customers without giving everything away—is a training tool of sorts. For instance, while conventional web design likes to be straightforward and present everything a visitor needs in a clear manner, a porn site can’t reveal too much, or else the visitor will never becoming a paying customer. What’s the point of paying even a few dollars a month if you’ve already seen it all?

The challenge here is that while limiting transparency, the site still has to be clear about its message. What sets it apart from competitors for instance? What does it offer to the  market? More often than not, the only way to balance understandability with mystery is to be creative. And that’s exactly why my friend insists that freelancers who’ve worked in porn are better for it. The projects require a more imaginative approach, and such an outlook is apparently useful down the road.

Do you think that the world of augmented body parts and fake orgasms may provide freelancers with insights that lead to real success? Have a great work week dear readers!
