Why Speed Works to a Freelancer’s Advantage—Beyond the Obvious
Tamara apparently takes the Pareto Principle to heart, because she writes about how speed is a freelancer’s best friend. Nothing’s revolutionary about the concept of accomplishing work quickly—and properly—leading to more success. That is obvious enough when you look at athletes competing to be harder, better, faster, stronger.
No, what distinguishes Speed: A Freelancer’s Best Friend is its in-depth discussion of exactly how speed works to a freelancer’s favor. The money quote:
I’ll even say that the freelancer who can’t get his or her work done efficiently needs to find a way to cultivate the skills of speed. (Either that or find a killer specialty niche that makes him or her absolutely invaluable.) Writing, editing, and simply working faster will result in higher income, a larger client list, and – perhaps the most important of all – more time with your kids.
Sounds like quick conclusions from a vague idea. But again, Tamara’s detail wins the day. Read the whole article here and see why.

I hadn’t really thought about how using speed relates to the Pareto Principle, but I can see now that the two go hand-in-hand. It’s all about maximizing efficiency to get the most dollars at the end of the day. That sounds like a good goal to me!
